Dr Pip Garner did a Medical Sciences degree, specialising in anatomy and bone, which preceded a brief career as a high school science teacher. She then returned to the University of Leeds and completed her multidisciplinary (biology and engineering) PhD 2 years ago with her thesis about ageing human bone and osteoporosis, and has been working since as an early career scientist looking into the variability of the human spine.
“I am about to embark on a new adventure as a teacher of neuroscience. Alongside this I have also been able to indulge in my passion for talking to the public about the fascinating world of medical and biological engineering, helping people explore; why bones are like chocolate bars, what’s happening in the world of joint replacements such as the hip and knee, and how are new regenerative medicine techniques now being used to help the body to repair itself?”
