Dr Camilla Speller is a lecturer in the Archaeology Department at the University of York and researches ancient DNA and proteins recovery from archaeological remains.
“I currently focus on understanding the diets and diseases of past peoples by looking at the molecular information trapped in ancient dental plaque. I will discuss the recent discovery that ancient dental plaque is a rich source of human and bacterial proteins and DNA, and how we can use those biomolecules to investigate ancient oral and respiratory bacteria, as well as the ancient human immune system.”
