Colin Courtney Mustaphi studies sediment rock layers to reconstruct past environmental conditions by applying an understanding of modern processes to interpret geologic history and looking at fossil and plant remains preserved in sediment.
“By studying the past we can start to understand how ecosystems will respond to future climatic and land-use changes and other human impacts. My recent research interest focuses on characterising past climatic, vegetation, and disturbance regime variability, to understand the mechanisms controlling ecosystem processes and how human activity has been key to the evolution of landscape in varying degrees.”
