Roger Colbeck has a PhD from the University of Cambridge and held research positions at ETH Zurich (a university in Switzerland) and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (Canada).
“I am now a lecturer in mathematics at the University of York. My research spans many aspects of quantum information theory with a particular focus on quantum cryptography, as well as the foundations of quantum mechanics.
“I have been interested in science from an early age, gaining particular inspiration by reading popular science books while at school. I chose the field of quantum information theory because it brings together three major disciplines: mathematics, physics and computer science with the broad goal of understanding what power the laws of physics give us for processing information.”
