The walking tour will follow the main roads and alley ways through the shopping streets of York
York is famous for the Vikings, but what happened in the city after the arrival of William the Conqueror in 1069? Starting at Clifford’s Tower, this walking tour will draw on recent research looking at the archaeological and historical evidence for the arrival of the Normans and the subsequent development of the centre of York. The walk will explore the hidden story of streets near York Minster, discovering the location of a lost church and the evidence for the shops, homes and businesses of the later medieval residents. Step back through the ages and explore York’s past!
