Have you ever wondered how people found food before global supermarkets? How did people prepare food without cookers and microwaves? Everyone knows you are what you eat, but how do we know what our ancestors ate and what can this tell us about society in the past?
Come and find out how archaeologists reconstruct the diets of people in the past, from examining microscopic plant remains to looking at animal and fish bones, and even the chemical analysis of the bones of the people themselves. You will discover how archaeologists use this information to unravel hierarchies, social relationships and patterns of trade. You’ll look at evidence for hunting and gathering, harvesting and cooking meals from archaeological sites from prehistoric to Medieval times and even get to try some of these foods yourselves!
