Over history, cheese (yes cheese!) has helped to shape the landscape and society of Alpine communities. Traditional cheeses, like fontina and tome, are a great part of the cultural heritage of the Alps. But why is their history so influential in the evolution of Alpine society?
You will discover a history of alpine dairy, from ancient small scale production to modern companies, like Nestlé and Kraft. Looking at the relationships between this evolution, the socio-economic framework of local communities and the upland landscapes, it will be shown that cheese is not only food, but is also a key factor in the social change in Alpine communities and landscapes. So come to this talk to uncover the hidden history of everyone’s favourite dairy product!
