Out of sight, out of mind: The psychology behind meat consumption Dr Thomas Davies, Psychology
Event details
One Planet Week event
Most people eat meat despite knowing that doing so causes animal suffering and damages the environment. In this talk we will explore the psychology that underpins meat consumption. Further, we will discuss the psychological overlap between meat consumption and other environmental concerns such as sweatshop clothing and conflict minerals. This talk centres on the theme of culture and community by discussing how culture is both part of the problem and the solution to environmental concerns.
Dr Thomas Davies is an Associate Lecturer in Psychology at the University of York.
This event is organised as part of OPW2021. Find out more via the One Planet Week page on the University website. This year's theme is Culture and Community, which you can read more about on the UoY Sustainability blog. #OPW21
