Joanna Norman
Joanna Norman is Director of the V&A Research Institute. She oversees the V&A’s research strategy and activities, including academic partnerships and postgraduate programmes, R&D for exhibitions, research affiliations and a portfolio of externally-funded research projects, most significantly a major transformational grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. She joined the V&A from the British Museum in 2005, and has worked as a curator on a number of gallery and exhibition projects including the V&A’s permanent Europe 1600–1815 galleries (2015) and the Scottish Design Galleries at V&A Dundee (2018). Joanna’s own research interests range from early modern Italian and French architecture, furniture design and performance, to histories of collecting and progressive museologies.
