Sociology Lecture
Interdisciplinary collaborations between scientists/technologists, social scientists and philosophers/theologians have revealed deeply submerged yet powerful narratives at work beneath public discourse on controversial technologies.
Professor McLeish will consider two examples of collaborations with human geographers, on nanotechnology and GM crops, in detail. Resources for narrative analysis and reflection are, surprisingly, found in the ancient wisdom-literature text The Book of Job, which has received more philosophical attention than any other biblical book.
