The Unequal Pandemic - film screening and Q&A
Event details
Film Screening
The Social Policy Group at the University of York are delighted to be holding a screening of “The Unequal Pandemic: How COVID-19 Exposed Deep Structural Inequalities Across the UK” – a film produced by Debbie Abrahams MP and Good Guys Productions.
This short film lays bare the long-term institutional, societal and governmental failures that led to one of the highest excess covid death rates in the developed world. Family testimonies and startling evidence reveal the profound impacts upon individuals and families, and how these were experienced unequally. It asks how can we can build a fairer society for all, should another pandemic or similar crisis arise.
The screening will be followed by an audience discussion and Q&A with a panel – hosted by the Social Policy Group at the University of York – that will include Debbie Abrahams MP, Professor Kate Pickett (Professor of Epidemiology at the University of York and Academic Director of Health Equity North), Michelle Smirthwaite (COVID Realities project) and chaired by Professor Ruth Patrick (Professor of Social Policy at the University of York and the COVID Realities and Changing Realities research programmes).
