Wentworth Open Lecture

Rediscover York’s medieval city walls with archaeologist Barry Crump, who might make you see our city’s iconic landmark in a new light.

Find out:

  • How the walls have been rebuilt, repurposed and reimagined repeatedly since Roman times,
  • How they have been put to a variety of uses depending on the context,
  • And how they were understood and experienced differently by different people across time.

About the speaker

Barry Crump is an unusual archaeologist, with an eclectic mixture of interests and experience. He has studied Philosophy, English Literature and Archaeology and worked within many aspects of heritage, from archaeological excavation and finds to museums, outreach and research.
