The Narrative and Complex Systems group met for a second time at a workshop in York's Humanities Research Centre from the 10th to 12th April. There were thirteen participants, including group members from Southampton, Abertay, UWE, Amsterdam, Helsinki and Tartu as well as York. The event was made possible by a Research Priming Fund award, and was focussed on developing the group's ongoing Narrating Complexity proposal for further funding opportunities.
The workshop, held in the Berrick Saul Treehouse, was once again an intensive and intellectually stimulating event. The programme included presentations from new members and a structured discussion of the components of the Narrating Complexity project, under the headings of Communication, Culture, Conceptualization and Cognition.
An additional outcome of the event was the proposition that the group should produce a volume of exploratory essays aimed at opening up the many facets of the research questions raised by the Narrating Complexity project.
