"Scurrilitas: Sex, Magic, and the Performance of Fictionality in Anselm of Besate's Rhetorimachia"
The workshop will be a round-table discussion based upon Monika’s essay (forthcoming in a volume on Performance in the Middle Ages); the essay, along with extracts from the Rhetorimachia (in Monika’s own working translation) will be circulated in advance.
NB: After the workshop (at 5.30) Monika is also giving a paper to the Med Lits Research Seminar, entitled “The Voice of the Hedgehog: Voice, Impersonation, and Fictionality in the Ecbasis Captivi.”
Location: Room K/G33, King’s Manor
Admission: The workshop is open to all, though it is intended primarily for staff and post-graduate students. Those wishing to participate should contact Richard Walsh (rmw8@york.ac.uk) by Friday 12th June to obtain a copy of the advance material.
