Friday 15 March 2019, 2.30PM to Sat 16, 1pm
The aim of this symposium is to initiate conversation among narrative researchers in the UK in order to cultivate a national network and consolidate the presence of narrative studies as a field in British academia. The format will be informal, and based around short (~10 min) presentations from each participant on the narrative-related dimensions of their current research enthusiasms. The idea is to provide opportunities for discussion, to make connections and to identify possible opportunities that may arise from the convergence, or indeed the contention, between the mix of topics, projects, theoretical orientations, etc. The field of narrative studies remains relatively inchoate in this country, in part because of the structure of UK higher education, in part - no doubt - because of its pervasive and seemingly amorphous object of inquiry; this symposium aspires to make some first steps towards changing this state of affairs.
