There is a significant number of academics across the Humanities and Social Sciences at York with interests in a broadly defined critical theory. But, scholars seem mostly to be working within single departments, or across a couple of departments, with little sense of the closely-related, but also often usefully different work going on at York in other disciplines.
Seeking to develop new interdisciplinary connections in critical theory at York, and to celebrate the publication of Theory after "Theory" - a landmark collection edited by Derek Attridge and Jane Elliott that includes essays on affect, biopolitics, biophilosophy, the aesthetic, and neoliberalism, as well examinations of established areas such as subaltern studies, the postcolonial, and ethics - the Centre for Modern Studies will host a short drinks reception in the Treehouse, Berrick Saul Building.
If theory plays a significant part in your research and teaching practice, and you might be interested in meeting, talking to and working with related colleagues, please join us.
Location: The Treehouse, Berrick Saul Building
Admission: All welcome
