Jiyi Ryu will be speaking about the Colonial and Postcolonial contexts of Liberty's. The department store opened in 1875 and to this day continues to specialise in Oriental goods, in particular imported Indian silks and Middle Eastern carpets. The store played an important role in the Arts and Crafts movement, and the Art Deco movement, and has become a centre of design and art, the 'Liberty Print' an iconic brand that has spread globally.
The talk will be 20-30 mins long, after which there will be questions and a discussion over wine and cheese. There will also be vegan and gluten free options.
