CANCELLED: The Social Intellectual: experience and thought in the Middle Ages

This is to announce that, given the ongoing coronavirus situation, we have decided to postpone the conference in York. We’re obviously extremely sad to be doing this, but as the restrictions on travel keep changing, and with the very real possibility of the UK government suddenly deciding that universities should close, we think it is the wisest course of action.

We very much hope that we will be able to reschedule the event. We are looking at holding the conference instead at the end of September this year, in York. We will be able to say for certain in the next few days. If we can reschedule, then we are happy to hold over your registration if you still wish to attend.

We are very sorry for this, and so frustrated that we cannot go ahead next week, but hope that you will understand the wider context of concern and disruption beyond our control.

This international conference explores the organic relationship between lived experience and academic/religious thought, beginning from the position that intellectual activity and social experience were closely intertwined in the medieval period. The conference honours the work of Professor Peter Biller FBA in his 75th year, whose attempts to situate practical medieval thinkers in their milieux have inspired many of the speakers.
