Speaker(s): Prof. Katy Cubitt (University of East Anglia)
Prof. Katy Cubitt will deliver the next lecture in the York Medieval Lecture Series. This lecture has been rescheduled from Spring Term.
This paper takes a new look at the preaching of Archbishop Wulfstan of York and sets it in the context of the contemporary continental movement, the Peace of God. Continental parallels shed new light on the nature of Wulfstan's political and legal activities, and on the state of thecontemporary church. The lecture will also explore some aspects of continental influence on the tenth- and eleventh-century church.
