Saturday 22 February 2025, 10.00AM to 1.00pm
Speaker(s): Liam Herringshaw BSc PhD
How can we use fossils to reconstruct ancient environments? In this half-day class, palaeontologist Dr Liam Herringshaw will explain the secrets behind the science, from the 19th Century pioneers who deduced that Yorkshire was once home to hyaenas, to the 21st Century trailblazers interrogating the ocean’s earliest complex ecosystems. With specimens to examine, you'll delve back over half-a-billlion years into Earth history. No previous experience with palaeontology is required, but an interest in geology, biology or natural history would be useful. Participants may find it useful to sign up to the preceding half-day class 'Fossils: An Introduction'.
