An outline of a human head in profile with a diagram of the brain, with a background of coloured lights and a circuit board

This course will examine ethical, metaphysical, and epistemological questions surrounding Artificial Intelligence (AI). We will explore the nature of consciousness, free will, morality and the implications of the rise of AI on human identity and human societies. By exploring the work of theorists such as David Chalmers, Hubert Dreyfus, Patricia Churchland, and John Searle, we will consider questions such as ‘Can AI have consciousness?’, ‘Which ethical system should AI follow?’, and ‘Can AI have rights, and if so, what kind?’.
