Are chairs conscious? We accept that human beings have conscious experience, but might everything have some level of conscious experience? This session will examine some prominent theories which say that everything is conscious. Namely, we will investigate panpsychism (the idea that everything is conscious) and cosmopsychism (the idea that the universe itself is conscious). We will explore arguments for and against these positions and explore this interesting and developing area of philosophical research.
