Several centuries have passed since the dreamer Piers Plowman fell asleep on the Malvern Hills and began his spiritual quest for ‘kynde knowinge’, for a personal and transformative encounter with God. We shall look at the medieval context of the poem – religious and historical as well as literary - as well as exploring ways in which some of the themes have been taken up by medieval mystics like Julian of Norwich or modern poets such as TS Eliot.
