The Literary Landscapes of Sir Walter Scott

Celebrated as a poet even before he became a novelist, as the author of Waverley, Sir Walter Scott took the literary world of his day by storm. Looking first at the Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border, the inspiration of so much of Scott's writing, this course will focus on Waverley itself, The Heart of Midlothian, Redgauntlet, and Ivanhoe. Students will also need to read The Ragged Lion - about Sir Walter Scott - by Allan Massie.
