For many writers, the short story is where they can experiment and develop their ideas most freely. How has the short story evolved since the early twentieth century? What are the reasons for its enduring appeal to us as readers? We will read a wide range of short fiction by writers including Ray Bradbury, Katherine Mansfield, James Baldwin, Alice Munro, and Bernadine Evaristo, to discuss how writers continue to reinvent this literary form in new and inspiring ways.
