Tuesday 22 April 2025, 7.00PM to 9.00pm
Speaker(s): Marisa Michaud BA MA
Primarily focusing on Northern European manuscripts, this survey course introduces students to ways in which we can both visually and textually read and interpret manuscript illumination. Manuscripts are complex objects which require a careful interpretation of the fundamental interplay between text and image that occurs within them. We will focus on a range of different types of manuscripts and imagery, from Hildegard von Bingen’s twelfth-century Scivias to the fifteenth-century Limbourg Brothers’ Très Riches Heures, and Simon Marmion’s Visions of Tondal.
