In this short course, we will cover the arrival of Islam in the Indian subcontinent and the establishment of the Mughal dynasty (1526-1858). We will investigate the extraordinary artistic achievements: the citadel of Fatehpur Sikri, The Taj Mahal complex, the innovative manuscript painting, the sumptuous jewellery, the precious carpets and textiles. We will complete the course by analysing the important role played by the Portuguese and British in the colonisation of the area and their artistic legacy.
