Michelangelo was one of the most original and influential artists of his age, and the impact of his self-mythologising (promoted in turn by Vasari and other of his supporters) has profoundly shaped our art-historical understanding ever since. Join us in this detailed analysis of his painting and sculpture, as we place his work back into its original contexts of making, purpose and patronage, and locate him within a network of influences and rivalries, as we attempt to see his achievements in a fresher and more accurate light.
