The legend of Lady Godiva riding through the streets of Coventry naked is well-known, but this story only developed over one hundred years after her death. This day school will examine the career of the original eleventh century Lady Godiva, or Godgifu, her marriages to Earl Leofric of Mercia and perhaps also to Earl Siward of Northumbria, and how the later stories about her ride through Coventry developed.
