The Italian Renaissance has captured the world’s imagination for centuries. Places such as Florence, Venice, and Rome together with names like Botticelli, Leonardo and Michelangelo have been synonymous with exquisite art, science, and creativity. This course will explore the period that witnessed a revalidation of the classical past and the development of new secular values. It will study the cultural production of the Italian Renaissance in areas such as literature, science, music, religion, technology, and art.
