The longest reigning sultan of the Ottoman Empire, Suleiman extended his dominions from the Balkans to the Persian Gulf, and from the Red Sea to Algiers. Under him, the empire reached its highest political, cultural, and economic point. A highly cultured and well-educated man, he was a keen supporter of art and architecture. This course will explore the life and times of Suleiman against the backdrop of the Ottoman Empire and Early Modern Europe.
