Rabbits, grey squirrels, roe deer, red foxes… all of these species are familiar to us as native British wildlife. But the animals we see around us have a complex history of introductions, extinctions, and co-existence with humans throughout history. In this course we will explore what it means for a species to be ‘native’, and how the fauna of mainland Britain has changed between the end of the last Ice Age and the present day.
