Lavishly decorated and skilfully illuminated manuscripts are among the most remarkable treasures of medieval Europe. Monastic scriptoria and secular workshops produced a vast number of these invaluable books, many of which have survived to amaze the modern viewer. By close-examining manuscript illuminations, this course aims to study the design, production, execution and iconography of paradigmatic medieval manuscripts dating from the eighth to the fifteenth centuries.
