Between the Lines: Poetry and Not Saying Things

Saturday 22 February 2025, 10.00AM to 1.00pm

Speaker(s): Penny Boxall MA

A lined notebook and pen

This half-day workshop will discuss avoidance, twistiness, and hints in poetry. Can we get closer to the truth by not saying things outright? How much can we ask the reader to search for between the lines? We’ll look at magnificently unreliable narrators, such as that of Ian Duhig’s ‘The Lammas Hireling’, and discuss techniques for writing about one thing, but meaning another.
