Ekphrastic poetry has come to be defined as poems written about works of art. However, in ancient Greece, the term ekphrasis meant the skill of describing something in vivid detail. With attention to detail, precision and craft, in this course we will read a series of poems from across literary history that respond to works of art and respond again with our own writing that is inspired by visual culture.
