Thursday 26 September 2024, 7.00PM to 9:00pm
Speaker(s): Elisa Foster BA MA MAT PhD
This module considers how practices of collecting and display shaped the origins and development of art museums and galleries in Europe and North America. It will consider how museums’ choices of exhibition and curation practices have played a role in the construction of the history of art, and how this narrative has been challenged through alternative methods of viewing, collection, and display. It will especially consider the impact of both imperialism and war looting upon museum collections and the current debates surrounding this issue.
