Hitler’s Public Image: Creating and Sustaining a Myth

Thursday 25 January 2024, 7.00PM to 9.00pm

Speaker(s): Matthew Barr PhD

A magnifying glass and an open book

This course will examine public image between Hitler taking power in 1933 and his suicide in 1945. What did Germans really think of Hitler? How were they misled? What about dissenters, particularly as the military tide turned and the myth began to crumble? We will consider how the dictatorship created and maintained a hold over a population and how it responded when that grip began to be loosened.
