Reading English Handwriting (1500-1700)

This course will introduce students to palaeography: the art of reading old handwriting. In the first session we will learn practical tips to read documents such as wills and probate records, parish records, and letters, focusing on the challenging ‘secretary’ hand. In the second session we will continue to work through examples. This course is suitable for beginners and may be of interest to family and local historians. Feel free to bring digital copies of any documents you may wish to read!
