Point 4 on the self-guided library tour
You are now on the 1st floor of the Morrell which holds the Social Science subject areas with the addition of Medicine. Humanities subjects are on the 2nd floor (with the exception of Music which is located in the Fairhurst), and Science subjects on the 3rd floor. On each floor you will find signage that explains the rules for that area, the expected noise level, and any additional information around types of study space.

YorSearch: the library catalogue
To locate items within the Library you need to search our Library catalogue YorSearch which tells you what we have and where to find it. You can use computer terminals such as the one to your right to do this, or search online on your own device.
How to find books by their shelf location
Many of our resources are electronic and can be accessed from anywhere in the world but if you are looking for a physical item then you need to know the shelf location - this will look something like this: MA 14.3 STA. Make a note of this before going to search the shelves. When locating the item you need to break the shelf location down into chunks: first find the MA section, then look along the shelves in ascending numerical order until you find the books labelled MA 14.3, then look through these alphabetically until you find the item with the correct last three letters.
Requesting on loan items
If the item you are looking for is already being borrowed by another person you can place a hold on YorSearch to ensure that you get it when it is returned. We keep an eye on hold requests and will purchase more copies of any titles that are in high demand. Most of our items can be borrowed indefinitely so long as they are not needed by another person; check your emails for updates on when an item is due back.
Time to explore
At this point in the tour we suggest that you take a bit of time to explore the upper levels and the subject areas most relevant to you. You may wish to choose some books to borrow. Look out for further QR codes for more information about particular areas.
