About the collection
The collector
Raymond Burton (1921-2014) had a great enthusiasm for Yorkshire and wanted to make an enduring contribution to the county. He paid for the construction of the Raymond Burton Library for Humanities Research, designed by Leach Rhodes Walker, and opened in 2003.
Acquisition
Burton's collection of Yorkshire books was deposited in the Library at the same time as the opening of the Raymond Burton Library for Humanities Research. The Library continued to receive donations of books until his death in 2014.
