Attlee collection
The Attlee collection comprises of books donated to the Library by former Prime Minister Clement Attlee.
Many of these works relate to the independence of India and Pakistan and demonstrate the extent of Attlee’s involvement with this historic event.

Acquisition
Attlee donated works to the newly founded University of York in the early 1960s.
Highlights
- Ancient versus modern ‘scientific socialism’, or, theosophy and capitalism, fascism, communism by Bhagavan Das. Contains a note to Attlee from the author on the front endpaper.
- The Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan with a handwritten dedication to Attlee from 1956.
- The discovery of India by Jawaharlal Nehru. This copy has a handwritten dedication from Nehru to Attlee.
