Situated in the heart of the University of York at the Harry Fairhurst Building within Campus West, the Creativity Lab welcomes both staff and students.
Our state-of-the-art facility is a hub for exploring new and emerging technologies, tools and resources.
Workshops
Discover a range of events and training sessions, from introductory kit workshops that provide hands-on experience with new technology, to masterclasses and residences led by industry experts, enabling in-depth exploration of specific areas in digital creativity.

Teaching
Tailored to your needs, our bespoke teaching options cover everything. We have focused instruction on digital creativity and technology to embedded teaching for academic departments, encompassing multimedia tools such as podcasting and video editing.

Drop-in sessions
Each week, the Lab opens its doors to allow University of York staff, students and researchers to explore our cutting-edge facilities and equipment. Whether it's for research, project development, fostering creative ideas or simply having fun, these sessions offer an open space for all. You can drop in to use our Media workstations, with no need to book. We're open 10am-10pm Monday-Thursday, and 10am-4pm on Fridays. Availability on some days varies each week, due to other events. One-to-one support
For those looking for additional support, we offer one-to-one appointments (online and in-person) to assist you with your Digital Creativity projects. Our team can help you with technologies like 3D modelling, media creation/editing, and selecting the best tools for your Digital Creativity needs.
I think we are unbelievably privileged to have full unattended access to so many cool things such as a 3D printer, CRICUT machine, podcast studio, powerful computers and the ability to borrow such a wide variety of equipment!

Facilities and Podcasting
The Lab provides accessible desk space and features 16 high-end gaming workstations which are equipped with a range of creative editing software, such as Adobe Creative Cloud, and access to game engines like Unreal and Unity. A wide selection of equipment is also available that allows you to explore Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), 3D design/scanning, podcasting, 360 filming and recording, plus much more.
The Creativity Lab's Podcasting studio provides a comfortable and functional space for you to record and host your podcast.
Equipment hire
University of York staff and students can take advantage of the Creativity Lab's free equipment hire service. Equipment such as VR headsets, camera and audio equipment is available to use, with support from the Creativity Lab team of technical experts. The equipment can be booked online via our equipment catalogue. When booking, please ensure you read our terms and conditions.
