The British Library cyber-attack and how it affects University of York students and staff

Behold! The winning film from the Library Halloween Horror competition is here...
We unearthed some silent footage from a 1969 library welcome video, and asked students and staff to remix it into a Halloween film trailer. The winning entry was by Erin McLeod, a Film Studies student from the School of ACT, and it is uploaded below in all its glory.

Our Help Desk hours are changing: here’s what you need to know
The Morrell Library & IT Help Desk and our Virtual Help Desk (email, chat and phone) are changing their hours to 10am - 4pm, Monday to Friday. The King’s Manor Library Help Desk hours will remain the same as they are now.

Ron Cooke Hub Library Services moving to Law and Management Building
The library services currently offered at Ron Cooke Hub, including the Book Drop and 24/7 Study Area, will move to the Law & Management building from 24 July.

How Student Curators are developing our collections
The Library has two brilliant Student Curators working with us over the summer, developing our collections to platform Eastern European voices and Transgender voices.

Don't leave your books in York over Summer!
If you're leaving the City for the vacation, please either return your borrowed books and other items first, or take them with you to post back if necessary. Books can still be recalled by other users during the summer, although you'll now have 14 days to return them.

If you're an undergraduate or postgraduate about to leave the University, first of all: huge congratulations! Second of all, please return all the items you have on loan from the library, by June 23rd.

Open Access publishing agreement with Springer Nature announced
The three-year agreement, negotiated by Jisc on behalf of the UK Higher Education sector, will support authors to publish open access in more than 2,500 Springer Nature journals (including Nature, Nature research and Palgrave titles).

New library website launches
We are excited to announce the launch of our brand new website, designed with input from both students and staff. Our focus on UX (user experience) has involved interviewing students and incorporating many of your suggestions, resulting in a completely rebuilt site from the ground up, more useful and user-friendly than ever before.

Fairhurst Building Lift Works
The internal lift in Fairhurst is being replaced, with works expected to last 7 weeks (until May 2023).

LibInspo 2023 winner announced
The third LibInspo competition concluded on Wednesday 1 March 2023 with its final event at the Bowland Auditorium in the Berrick Saul Building. The day was a huge success in many ways, but in particular because of the outstanding presentations from students.

Digital Creativity Week 2023
Digital Creativity Week is a week-long event for students to work with digital and creative technologies, explore archival material and research, and develop skills, culminating in the creation of digital artefacts for an exhibition celebrating the University of York campus and collections.

University releases new policy to help researchers exercise their rights
The University has today released a new Research Publications and Open Access policy. The new policy, which will apply to research articles submitted from 1 March 2023, will allow researchers to exercise greater sharing and reuse rights over their own research.
