Researchers: Dr Joe Tomlinson
This project, being undertaken by Dr Joe Tomlinson with the Public Law Project, is seeking to provide detailed empirical analysis of the roll-out of the EU Settlement Scheme—the system which allows EU citizens to apply to remain in the UK after Brexit.
In particular, it focuses on the administrative justice elements of the scheme. The first part of the research found that a new automated model of administrative justice underpinned the Scheme, and provided analysis of the strengths and weakness of the model.
This analysis was published in a report, Quick and Uneasy Justice, launched in Parliament in summer 2019 (and is now being developed into an academic article on automating administrative justice).
The second stage of the project is gathering and analysing data on the performance of the model, with a view to understanding its operation and impact.
