Paul de la Pena
I am a Lecturer at York Law School (YLS).
Prior to joining YLS I practised as a solicitor for 25 years, with a specialism in corporate restructuring and insolvency. I began my career as a trainee at Wilde Sapte (now part of Dentons) and subsequently I was a partner at DLA Piper and then Eversheds Sutherland, where I was Head of the Restructuring team from 2013 to 2017. My practice principally focussed on non-contentious restructuring cases, acting for lenders and investors, insolvency practitioners, and the directors of financially distressed companies.
After leaving practice, I taught business and skills courses at the University of Law for two years before joining YLS.
My research interests include corporate law, and insolvency and restructuring law. I also have an interest in research into widening participation in the legal profession.
I am the module leader of the Law Commerce and Finance Transactions module (LLB Y3 option) and joint module lead for Advanced Legal Skills (LLB Y2). I also teach on the Foundations of Law modules (LLB Y1 and Y2) and the Company Law module (LLB Y3 option), and supervise undergraduate dissertations
I am the module leader of the Practice of Corporate Transactions module, and I also supervise postgraduate dissertations.
