Biography

Mary-Jane Horgan
LLB Hons (Middlesex), Solicitor, CertEd

Lecturer

I studied law as an undergrad at Middlesex University (previously Middlesex Polytechnic), then later as a post-grad (LPC) at Guilford College of Law. I qualified as a solicitor with a small high street firm in west Wales where I specialised in (mainly) legally aided family law cases and personal injury litigation.

I was teaching law for a number of years before I qualified, and then returned to teaching sometime later at Aberystwyth University on the GDL and Legal Practice Course across a number of legal practice disciplines.

After eight years I returned to undergraduate law teaching and supervision of master’s degrees in legal practice. With the exception of my time in practice, I have been teaching law since 1995 at a range of academic institutions including sixth forms, further education colleges and universities. I joined York Law School in 2016.

I am also a qualified mediator in both family law, and workplace dispute resolution.
