I am a PhD student at York Law School and the Centre for Applied Human Rights, currently in my writing-up year. I have taught on several undergraduate modules, including the York Law School's problem-based learning programme.
I have a background in the legal and charity sectors, working across areas of social welfare, human rights, and on access to justice projects. I was awarded the Public Service & Human Rights Ansari Scholarship in 2022. I was also a senior editor at the York Law Review.
My doctoral project is a socio-legal study of British women and children affiliated with the Islamic State, using both doctrinal and empirical methods. The questions posed within my research provoke a review of how justice and human rights can be applied in the complex counter-terrorism challenges of today’s world. My thesis supervisors are Professor Ioana Cismas and Dr Lawrence McNamara.
