ESRC White Rose Social Sciences DTP (WR DTP) scholarships

Applications are now open for scholarships to the White Rose Social Sciences Doctoral Training Program, find out more about the scholarships available.

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) White Rose Doctoral Training Program (WRDTP) is a regional consortium of seven universities with social science research excellence. It involves the Universities of Sheffield, Leeds and York as well as Bradford, Hull, Manchester Metropolitan and Sheffield Hallam.

The WRDTP has been accredited by the ESRC to offer PhD scholarships across a range of schemes, and in 2024/25 the following awards will be open for application from students:

  • up to 32 WRDTP Pathway Awards, incorporating 2 Interdisciplinary Research Awards and 2 WRDTP/Stuart Hall Foundation Awards for Black British applicants;
  • up to two WRDTP Advanced Quantitative Methods (AQM) Awards;
  • up to two WRDTP Advanced Data Analytics (ADA) Awards

There will also be up to seven Collaborative Awards made to supervisory teams for projects involving collaboration with an external partner. Supervisors will apply for these awards, and those projects that are awarded funding will be open for applications from students in early Spring 2024.

Further information about each of the award schemes can be found on the WRDTP website. All awards are available on a 1+3.5, +3.75 or a +3.5 basis, and can be held full-time or part-time.

Applicants will first be considered by the department and then nominated for further consideration in the application process. To facilitate this, you must have applied for your PhD programme by Thursday 4 January 2024, 5pm BST. You must also indicate on your application your intention to apply for funding from the White Rose DTP.
