Top SLSA Book Prize
Congratulations to Professor Charlotte O’Brien who has been awarded the Hart Socio-Legal Studies Association Book Prize for her ground-breaking monograph, “Unity in Adversity: EU Citizenship, Social Justice and the Cautionary Tale of the UK"
The prize is given to the “most outstanding piece of socio-legal scholarship published in the last 12 months”, with Professor O’Brien receiving her award at the Socio-Legal Studies Association conference dinner on the 4th April 2019 in front of nearly 500 delegates.
This is not the only praise the book – which draws on real-world advice and advocacy with EU nationals navigating EU and UK welfare law – has garnered. Described by Devetzi as a “very remarkable, inspiring, and wonderfully readable book”, by Neergard as an “important and impressive contribution to EU legal scholarship”, and by Reynolds as a “fresh take on the foundations and practical operation of Union citizenship, delivering a significant, genuinely new contribution to the conversation”, reviews have underscored the significant contribution the book makes to existing scholarship.
