BAME Students and Staff

Staff and students at York Law School come from a wide range of different backgrounds and countries and we thrive as a result of our diverse community. As a Department, York Law School is committed to ensuring that BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) staff and students from all backgrounds feel welcome and fully included.

The University of York Race Equality Co-ordination Group was established to oversee activities, to challenge and to redress systemic inequalities and disadvantages experienced by Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) staff and students. It has published a Race Equality Action Plan and a guide for staff and students on Using appropriate language when referring to race and ethnicity. If you would like to get involved, contact equality@york.ac.uk.

Dr Katy Sian, Department of Sociology, has recently written a book, Navigating Institutional Racism in British Universities.
